The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has seen a 40% increase in the demand for cosmetic injectables in the last few years. Because injectables are non-surgical wrinkle treatment options that are effective, safe, and more affordable than surgical procedures, people are choosing them to get the youthful look they want.
Although Botox and Dysport injectables are household names, one option more of our patients are choosing is Jeuveau. If you are looking for a reliable wrinkle treatment, read on to learn why Jeuveau is a great choice.
What Is Jeuveau?
Like Botox, Jeuveau uses purified botulinum toxin to temporarily paralyze the small muscle groups that cause dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles, as opposed to static wrinkles, are those that are caused by smiles, frowns, and other facial expressions.
When we inject Jeuveau into muscle tissue, it blocks nerve signals. This prevents the brain from instructing the muscles to move.
The FDA approved Jeuveau in 2019 for the treatment of various areas, including:
- Frown lines between eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
- Neck bands
- Forehead lines
- Smoker’s lines
- Non-surgical brow lifts
- Lip flips
Jeuveau can soften the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles. At our clinic, we can also apply it in a preventative manner to keep new wrinkles from forming.
The effects of this injectable can last up to twelve weeks, depending on your metabolic rate. We recommend having a second round of cosmetic injectables three or four months after the first.
Once you have had a few treatments, you will only need top-up injections every three to six months. Since these injections train targeted muscles to remain more relaxed, results could be longer-lasting if you have regular treatment.
Differences Between Botox and Jeuveau
Jueveau is a neuromodulator like Botox. They both contain botulinum toxin type A, and they work in similar ways. But Jeuveau uses a slightly different form of the toxin. While Botox contains onabotulinumtoxin A, Jeuveau contains prabotulinumtoxin A. They are both effective and approved by the FDA.
Jeuveau is the better option for the treatment of glabellar lines (frown lines), and it can be more affordable. Because of its Hi-Pure manufacturing process, you can start seeing results as quickly as three to five days after treatment. Of similar injectables, like Botox and Dysport, Jeuveau has the quickest onset time.
Preparing for Jeuveau Wrinkle Treatment
At our clinic, we will take your medical history to learn about any allergies you may have, as well as any procedures you have undergone. Let us know if you are taking medications or herbal supplements or if you have a blood clotting problem.
We also need to know whether you have any skin infections or have had any issues with cosmetic injectables in the past.
To maximize healing, we encourage patients to stop smoking for at least two weeks before treatment and avoid topical anti-aging creams or lotions. Do not take aspirin and ibuprofen for three weeks before the procedure. On the day of your appointment, your face should be free of makeup and lotions.
We will sanitize the area and ask you to scrunch up your face so that lines and wrinkles are clearly delineated. We will then apply a topical anesthetic before using fine needles to carefully inject Jeuveau into the muscles. During one appointment, we will usually perform three to five injections. The entire process lasts no more than half an hour.
There is no downtime for Jeuveau injections, but we recommend you avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol, and sun exposure for 24 hours. Do not apply heat to or massage the treatment area for a few hours after the procedure to avoid dispersing the injectable.
Because injectables are non-invasive, recovery time is just a few days. Within three to four days, you will likely see a softening of wrinkles and creases. Some people notice their skin is smoother and tighter within one day of the procedure. You will see the full results within seven to ten days.
The duration of the results can vary. Your muscle mass is one determining factor; the more muscle mass you have, the quicker your body metabolizes Jeuveau. The location of the injections also affects durability, as well as the amount of product injected.
If you want to increase how long the results last, set up a long-term treatment plan. By having regular injections, you can prevent “rebound wrinkles.” Follow proper after-treatment protocol and do not have laser treatments or skin tightening procedures until at least three days after the injections.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Jeaveau?
Adults who are in good overall health and who suffer from moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles can benefit from Jeuveau injectables. Jeuveau is safe for all skin types, but during our consultation, we will assess your skin and consider all treatment options.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have undergone dental work or have a skin infection, we will recommend delaying the procedure. We can also discuss alternatives.
