What Can Be Treated With Dysport?

Part of the natural aging process is the development of lines and wrinkles on the face. While this is normal, wrinkles can make many people feel self-conscious about their appearance. Even if you use quality skincare products that hydrate your skin and protect it from the sun, it can be nice to have additional tools to help minimize wrinkles.

Dysport is one of the wrinkle treatment options that we offer in our med spa. This injectable is a non-invasive way to relax facial wrinkles and improve your appearance.

At Exclusive Radiant MedSpa, we offer customizable treatments that always put our patients first. With a relaxing, calm, and luxurious environment and the top procedures and equipment, we ensure that you receive the best care for all of your cosmetic treatments.

What Is Dysport?

Dysport is one of three neuromodulator injectables that we offer at our clinic. The active ingredient in the injection is botulinum toxin type A which can be used to relax muscles and smooth out the wrinkles that are caused by repetitive muscle movement.

When Dysport is injected into your brows or forehead, it works to block nerve signals. This temporary effect can cause portions of the muscle to relax and not react as strongly when you make a facial movement. As a cosmetic treatment, it can prevent the skin in certain areas from folding and wrinkling when you smile, frown, or raise your eyebrows.

What Is Dysport Used For?

Dysport for Frown Lines, Forehead Wrinkles, and Crow’s Feet

In a cosmetic setting, Dysport is primarily used for smoothing out wrinkles in the upper portion of the face. Dysport is FDA-approved for use on glabellar lines, also known as frown lines. It is also one of the most effective ways to treat forehead wrinkles. Injectors can also use this product to treat crow’s feet.

Dysport Lip Flip

Doctors have discovered that injecting a small amount of product into the muscle just above the upper lip can help flip the lip slightly outwards. This subtle effect can not only make the upper lip appear fuller, but it can also help to prevent the gums from showing when you smile. The aim of a Dysport lip flip is to create a natural shape that doesn’t look overdone.

Medical Uses for Dysport

The ability to block signals in the body can make Dysport a useful tool for treating pain conditions such as migraines or muscle spasms. This product can also be injected into the underarms to block nerves that are causing sweat glands to produce too much sweat.

How Long Does Dysport Last?

While the amount of time will vary from person to person, you can expect your Dysport treatment to last between 3 and 4 months. Eventually, your body will absorb the botulinum toxin A and the muscle will restore its full motion. You can choose to invest in additional treatments if you want to continue benefiting from the product.

Comparing Dysport Vs Botox

When it comes to neuromodulators, one of the most well-known names is Botox®. While Botox is a great product that we also use in our med spa, it isn’t the only available treatment option. Many of our patients are confused about the difference between Dysport and Botox. This is understandable given that Dysport and Botox are both neuromodulators and both use the same active ingredient. However, there are some key differences between the two that can make each product better for different applications.

Dysport Can Work Faster

If you are looking for a faster result, Dysport may be the best option for you. Dysport often works slightly faster than Botox. It typically starts showing effects between 2 and 4 days after treatment while the first results of Botox may take up to a week to appear. You can expect full results from Dysport in two weeks, while Botox can take up to 30 days to show full results.

Dysport Can Spread Further

Once Dysport is injected into the target area, it can spread a little further from where it was injected. Each can be used in different ways to achieve excellent results. Dysport is sometimes preferred over Botox for treating forehead lines since this is a larger area.

Dysport is Less Potent

When comparing the two brands, Dysport is much less potent and more diffuse which can have benefits for certain applications. It can be used to create a more natural look since it spreads through the muscle more rather than having a potent effect on a small portion of the muscle. Dysport is often preferred for patients who are concerned about looking unnatural after a treatment. However, Botox can sometimes be better for treating small areas with more aggressive wrinkles.

Preparing for Your Dysport Injections

If you and your doctor have decided during a consultation that Dysport is the right treatment for you, you may want to know what to expect from your appointment. You can expect Dysport injections to be a comfortable process. We specialize in creating a relaxing environment that will make you feel more like you are getting a spa treatment than an injection.

The needle that we use is tiny and we can use topical anesthetics to make your injections more comfortable. There is no downtime expected for this treatment. Most patients only report slight swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection sites.
